Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Day of Celebration
Theta Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated held its annual Martin Luther King Day of Service on January 17th, 2022. Throughout the preceding weekend, members of the sorority participated in various community services activities in the spirit of Dr. King’s teachings. Members helped contribute to the following organizations within Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties: Sisterhood Inc., Sister Will You Help Me, Cathedral Kitchen, The Camden Rescue Mission & Loving Our Cities Food Pantry. To ensure COVID safety for all involved parties, the organizations received contactless donations and monetary contributions.
On January 17th, 2022, Theta Pi Omega hosted a virtual celebration of the Life & Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This presentation included guest speakers and an overview of the weekend’s community service work. Attendees were privileged to hear commentary from two astounding speakers who worked and served shoulder to shoulder with Dr. King: Reverend Dr. Wendell Mapson (Senior Pastor – Monumental Baptist Church) & Mrs. Theodora Smiley Lacey (Civil Rights Activist). Both speakers showered the audience with intangible insight on how to continue the work of Dr. King through ongoing community service, supporting voting rights, history lessons in schooling and so much more. The Theta Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated looks forward to joining you in the community to continue the revolutionary work of Dr. King!
