Members of the Theta Pi Omega Chapter Arts Committee were pleased to host middle and high school students at a virtual Poetry Quilt Workshop on Saturday, March 13th. Led by writer, poet, author and dance instructor, Shawn Jones, students were invited to tap into their Amanda Gorman talents and write a collective poem, each building on the strength of every student in attendance. Students listened to the rich sounds of Harlem Renaissance artists while learning about the contributions of great artists such as Gwendolyn Bennet and Langston Hughes. The workshop was engaging, educational and inspiring! Kudos to Co-Chairmen Melanie Kelly Omega and Kailah Johnson and the entire Arts Committee for hosting such a wonderful event for young people in the community. This was their first event of the year but it won't be their last. We look forward to more great programs in the future!
